MIAMI – The Florida Senate on Wednesday is slated to choose up a proposal that could aid Gov. Ron DeSantis if he runs for president.
The proposal, portion of an amendment to a big elections invoice (SB 7050), would exempt candidates for president or vice president from the state’s resign-to-run legislation.
That law says any state officeholder who “qualifies for federal general public office environment will have to resign from the office environment he or she presently holds if the phrases, or any component thereof, run concurrently with just about every other.”
By exempting candidates for president or vice president from the requirement, the monthly bill would assure DeSantis could run for president in 2024 without obtaining to resign as governor.
