FORT LAUDERDALE— A Florida lady and her loved ones have filed a lawsuit against Celeb Cruises, saying the cruise line improperly saved her husband’s system in the ship’s cooler, as opposed to the morgue, soon after he died on board.
The lawsuit was filed in the US District Courtroom for the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday.
In accordance to the complaint, Robert L. Jones, died due to a cardiac celebration though on the Movie star Equinox cruise ship in August 2022, touring from Fort Lauderdale to ports in the Japanese Caribbean.
The lawsuit states that right after Jones’ dying, his spouse, Marilyn Jones, was informed that she experienced two selections for what could be finished with her husband’s body. According to the lawsuit, those people options ended up to “possibly have Mr. Jones’ system taken off from the ship in San Juan,” Puerto Rico or to “have his entire body stored on the ship until eventually it reached port in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, somewhere around 6 days from the date of his passing.”
Jones’ human body stayed on board the ship for “roughly 6 times,” according to the lawsuit.
“When the funeral companies employee in Ft. Lauderdale was introduced on to the ship to retrieve Mr. Jones’ body, his overall body was not located in the ship’s morgue,” the lawsuit explained.
“Alternatively, Mr. Jones’ human body had, at some time not however regarded, had been moved from the ship’s morgue to a cooler on a distinct floor than the ship’s morgue. The cooler in which Mr. Jones’ entire body was discovered by the funeral staff had drinks placed exterior of the cooler, and was not at a temperature which was ample nor correct for storing a dead physique to stop decomposition,” according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit also says the entire body was found “in a bag on a palette on the flooring of the cooler” and that it “was in sophisticated phases of decomposition.”
Marilyn Jones and her loved ones are inquiring for compensatory damages in the volume of $1 million and are demanding a demo by jury.
