Former NFL defensive conclude Chris Smith dies aged 31


 (CNN) — Former NFL defensive conclude Chris Smith has died, his former agent claimed on Tuesday. Smith was 31. The result in of his demise is not yet regarded.

Drew Rosenhaus of RSR Sports tweeted, “Rest in Peace Chris. Condolences to all his loved ones, close friends and loved kinds. We will miss you.”

Smith’s high school alma mater also posted about his passing. “Rest in Peace to a West Rowan Legend!,” West Rowan Football’s account wrote on Twitter. “Chris was a far better human being than he was player! The influence he experienced on people close to him will be remembered without end!”

Smith played in the XFL, a professional football league, as not too long ago as Sunday when his Seattle Sea Dragons group defeated the St. Louis Battlehawks 30-12 in St. Louis.

“Chris was a strong presence in the locker area,” the XFL stated in a statement to CNN. “Loved and admired by his teammates and the coaching personnel. Our views and prayers go out to his overall family members at this complicated time.”

Smith’s NFL vocation spanned eight seasons and 7 franchises, enjoying for five of the groups.

He was drafted in the fifth round in 2014 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, just before going on to compete for the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns, the Las Vegas Raiders and most not too long ago the Houston Texans in 2021.

In complete he played in 72 NFL games, racking up 80 tackles and 11 sacks in these games, according to NFL.com.

The Browns tweeted their condolences on Tuesday. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of previous Browns DE Chris Smith,” the concept reads.

“Chris was just one of the kindest folks, teammates and mates we have had in our business. Our ideas and prayers are with his family through this tricky time.”

Many of Smith’s previous teammates shared tributes to the North Carolina native.

“Rest in paradise Chris Smith,” wrote Browns limited end David Njoku on Twitter. “Hometown hero and a brother to absolutely everyone. These a variety soul. This is Heartbreaking.”

Derek Carr, who was quarterback of the Raiders for the duration of Smith’s time there, tweeted: “Love you bro” together with a image of he and Smith celebrating.

Roy Miller III, an NFL defensive tackle who performed with Smith in Jacksonville, wrote: “My brother I was just contemplating how very pleased I was of you chasing your desires in the XFL you manufactured a complete room laugh when you laughed you generally observed a way to make any problem optimistic RIH Smitty.”

In 2013, Smith was named to the All-SEC Second Crew for his performances with the College of Arkansas Razorbacks.
