TALLAHASSEE – A Senate Republican on Thursday submitted a proposal that would look for to curb thefts of auto catalytic converters.
Sen. Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton, filed the proposal (SB 306) for consideration in the course of the legislative session that will begin in March. Rep. Fred Hawkins, R-St. Cloud, filed a similar bill (HB 185) last week.
The Senate bill would choose a series of methods, including demanding folks to continue to keep detailed data about buys or revenue of catalytic converters that have been taken off from automobiles.
It also, for case in point, would bar individuals from “knowingly” obtaining or offering stolen catalytic converters.
The proposals appear amid improves throughout the place in thefts of catalytic converters, at minimum in element since the emissions-regulate units contain valuable important metals that can be resold.
The U.S. Division of Justice in November, for example, introduced the “takedown” of a nationwide network of catalytic-converter thieves, dealers and processors.
