FORT LAUDERDALE — A regional used bookstore that survived the arrival of Barnes & Noble and Amazon has to open up a new chapter soon after currently being forced to shut down this coming weekend.
Quantity Just one Books, found at 8910 Taft Avenue, managed to keep in company regardless of the arrival of significant box bookstores and on the web commerce web-sites that turned commonplace in modern years.
But what eventually did the bookstore, owned by Sharon Luippold, in was a $1,700 lease raise that goes into impact afterwards this month.
“All people is aware of what the economic system is like and how the rental issues are likely,” she explained. “The new landlord we bought past December went up on my lease $300 and this December he went up a further $1,700, setting up this month.”
Luippold reported she purchased the ebook retailer in 1997 from a different owner who experienced been in business enterprise for 20 decades just before that.
She claimed she made the decision to acquire the bookstore mainly because she had a youthful daughter who was setting up university and she wished a little something to do and experienced been a frequent purchaser.
The store is established to stop functions on Sunday, and Luippold, 66, stated she strategies to retire soon after that.
“I’ve currently donated some guides to Joe DiMaggio Hospitals, and books to the state hospitals,” she reported. “Several lecturers have come via and gotten textbooks for their school rooms.”
Luippold stated the closure is a bittersweet event.
