MIAMI – Reggae musician Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, Bob Marley’s grandson and Stephen Marley’s son, has died at 31.

His representative confirmed his loss of life to Rolling Stone on Tuesday but a result in of demise was not right away disclosed.

Born in Jamaica and elevated in Miami, Marley adopted in his family’s musical footsteps, getting the phase with his family’s band, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. He commenced writing audio when in center college and created his musical debut in 2010 with the release of the one “My Female,” on which he collaborated with his cousin Daniel Bambaata Marley. In 2016, he collaborated on a track with his father for the latter’s album “Revelation Portion 2: The Fruit of Life.”

Marley grew up with his musician father and surrounded by Bob Marley’s other small children, which include uncle Ziggy and aunts Sharon and Cadella.

Jo Mersa Marley spoke of how music enveloped his upbringing in a former interview with Rolling Stone.

“I would appear dwelling and consider to do homework, but I might conclusion up finding distracted and go peek in the studio. You would generally want to run in and operate out to see what was likely on,” he mentioned.

He was intent on developing his own path, and introduced his individual debut album “Eternal” in 2021. He had researched studio engineering at Miami Dade Higher education.

News of Marley’s dying elicited mourning on social media, such as a post from Jamaican Key Minister Andrew Holness.

“My heartfelt sympathies to Joseph’s friends and associates and to the Reggae music fraternity and admirers everywhere,” Holness tweeted Tuesday. “His untimely passing at the young age of 31y.o. is a big reduction to the audio as we glance to the next era.”
