The effort and hard work to fly the turtles to the Keys was designed possible by a group of private pilots, dubbed “Turtles Fly Also,” who donated their aircraft, fuel and time. The reptiles were transported in towel-lined banana bins.
The most critically ill turtles will need more screening to find out irrespective of whether they have pneumonia, infections or other ailments, according to Zirkelbach. Cure will be established appropriately, as will the duration of the rehabilitation period.
“The turtles that respond to treatment and are not as significant, we hope to get them back in the ocean inside of two to 3 months, and some of them may consider a minimal longer and be with us below in the Keys for 10 to 12 months,” Zirkelbach stated.
Kemp’s ridley sea turtles are the most endangered of turtle species, according to Zirkelbach.
