Drawbridge lockdowns in Miami-Dade forward of Tropical Storm Nicole


MIAMI – Miami-Dade declared they will start off locking down all drawbridges on the Miami River and the Intercoastal Waterway Tuesday morning in advance of tropical-storm-pressure winds of 39 mph or greater.

These bridges will keep on being closed for the length of severe climate and till the drawbridges and waterways can be assessed for damages.

Below is what officers explained about the closures: 

“In Miami-Dade County, drawbridges above the Miami River will be shut sequentially commencing from the westernmost to the easternmost bridge (upstream to downstream).”

“Drawbridges more than the Intracoastal Waterway will be closed sequentially setting up from the southernmost to the northernmost bridge. Drawbridges will re-open in the reverse sequence. The to start with bridge to be locked down is the Tamiami Canal Bridge, followed by the 27th Avenue Bridge and all other Miami River bridges. This closure will continue on eastward to the mouth of the Miami River.”
