“I got a letter from the draft board when I was just 18,” he recalled, “They drafted me!”

He had no idea how his life was about to transform without end.
“At 18 I was a rather sheltered boy,” he explained. “I had no strategy of what war was all about.”.
That is when he arrived in Florida to show up at primary instruction at Camp Blanding in the vicinity of Starke.
“In Boot Camp they taught me how to destroy men and women and my daily life was mostly developed on loving persons,” Phil claimed, “that was very tricky for me to do.”
“I was in the Army Infantry (and) I would always say, ‘A buck non-public in the rear ranks,'” he explained a short while ago via laughter. “That’s what I inform people. I was not a sergeant. I wasn’t an officer or everything, I was just a simple ol’ American.”
