Sanibel Causeway reopened for truck convoy


FORT MYERS – A convoy of trucks drove to Sanibel Island on Tuesday, the initial vehicles to do so because Hurricane Ian weakened 5 sections of the Sanibel Causeway producing it impassable.

Short term repairs to the bridge manufactured it audio enough for bucket vans, tractor-trailers, and initial responders to cross. The trucks will assistance restore the ability on the island and get the job done on the infrastructure.

Right up until now, the only way on or off has been by boat or air.

Condition officials say the bridge will be open for all targeted visitors beginning next Friday, Oct 21st.
