TALLAHASSEE – Amid debates across the region about abortion rights, a political committee has proposed a ballot initiative in Florida that would realize a “God-given proper to lifetime of the preborn person.”
The Defend Human Daily life Florida Committee received an initial approval Aug. 12 from the Florida Section of State to move ahead with the proposed constitutional modification.
The committee would need to have to submit 891,589 petition signatures to get on the 2024 ballot.
It then would require approval from at least 60 per cent of voters.
The proposal seeks to set up a constitutional proper that would say, “The appropriate to everyday living of the preborn person is God-presented, thus unalienable and acknowledged accordingly. As a result, it shall not be infringed at any stage of enhancement.”
The proposal would include things like an exception for “the endeavor of everyday living-conserving methods to preserve the lifestyle of the mom when accompanied by fair measures to save the life of the preborn person.”
It also would consist of exceptions for “a spontaneous miscarriage, or spontaneous fetal demise.”
The proposal, titled the “Human Existence Safety Modification,” arrives following the U.S. Supreme Court docket in June overturned the many years-outdated Roe v. Wade abortion-legal rights choice.
It also arrives amid a lawful battle about a new Florida regulation that would stop abortions just after 15 months of being pregnant.
