MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A violent crash in Hallandale Beach shut down a portion of Federal Highway for several hours early Friday morning.
CBS4 News crews saw two SUV’s at the scene of the crash, with severe front end and side damage.

The crash happened at the intersection of Federal Highway and Hallandale Beach Boulevard sometime before midnight, according to people working in the area.
The impact of the crash knocked the engine out of one of the vehicles.

One vehicle ended up in the parking lot of the nearby Flannigan’s Seafood Bar & Grill restaurant, flying debris damaged one of its awnings. A palm tree appeared to be lodged through one of the vehicle’s windows.
A witness said one of the vehicles caught on fire after the crash.
Police said at least six people were injured.

The intersection, which was closed for several hours, has since reopened.
