FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A fire at a North Lauderdale apartment building has taken a deadly turn.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said they received a call around 8 a.m. about a fire at the Courtyards of Broward in the 1800 block of SW 81st Avenue.

Arriving North Lauderdale firefighters found fire and smoke billowing from the second floor of one of the buildings. The fire spread to the third floor.
Residents were evacuated. During a search of the building, one person was found dead.

The fire was contained and extinguished.
North Lauderdale City Manager Michael Sargis said the power has been shut off to the building and a building inspector has been called in to assess the damage and determine if residents can return.
